Depression

Evidence-Based Treatment for Depression Using CBT & Personalized Engagement

Depression can make everything feel heavier, your energy, motivation, thoughts, and sense of connection. You might feel stuck, numb, overwhelmed, or disconnected from things that once brought you joy.

At Serotonic Wellness, I provide depression therapy for teens and adults in Tacoma and throughout Washington via secure telehealth. My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with personalized, interest-based engagement to help clients reconnect with themselves, rebuild motivation, and create meaningful change.

You don’t have to do this alone, and you don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable.

What Does Depression Often Look Like?

Depression shows up differently for everyone, but common experiences include:

  • Persistent sadness or emptiness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feelings of guilt, shame, or hopelessness
  • Withdrawal from relationships
  • Low motivation or burnout

Depression can quietly take over daily life. Therapy helps create movement again.

How CBT Helps Treat Depression

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective, research-backed treatments for depression.

CBT focuses on the relationship between:

  • Thoughts
  • Emotions
  • Behaviors

In therapy, we work together to:

  • Identify negative or self-critical thought patterns
  • Learn how to challenge depressive thinking
  • Increase healthy behaviors that support mood
  • Develop coping skills for stress and overwhelm
  • Build structure and routine
  • Strengthen self-compassion and confidence

CBT is practical and collaborative, you’ll gain tools you can use between sessions, not just during therapy.

Using Your Interests & Hobbies as Part of Healing

Depression often disconnects people from activities they care about. Rather than treating therapy as something separate from your real life, I intentionally incorporate your interests, hobbies, and values into treatment.

This may include:

  • Reintroducing meaningful activities in small, manageable steps
  • Using creative outlets (art, music, writing, movement, etc.) for emotional expression
  • Building routines around things that matter to you
  • Exploring how your strengths already support resilience
  • Connecting goals to personal values and passions

This approach is rooted in behavioral activation, helping your nervous system experience positive reinforcement again, and makes therapy feel more personalized, motivating, and sustainable.

You don’t need to be “productive” to deserve care. We meet you exactly where you are.

Conditions I Commonly Support

 I work with clients experiencing:

  • Major depressive disorder
  • Persistent depressive symptoms
  • Depression related to anxiety or ADHD
  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion
  • Life-transition depression
  • Grief-related depression
  • Low self-esteem and motivation

Treatment is always individualized and paced based on your needs.

What to Expect in Depression Therapy

Sessions are supportive, structured, and collaborative. Together we’ll focus on:

  • Understanding your unique depression patterns
  • Learning CBT coping tools
  • Rebuilding motivation gradually
  • Creating realistic routines
  • Integrating meaningful activities
  • Tracking progress and adjusting goals as needed

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting. We build clarity together.

I offer virtual counseling across Washington, making it easier to access care from the comfort of your own space.

Telehealth allows us to:

  • Integrate real-life routines and interests directly into treatment
  • Maintain consistency even during busy or low-energy weeks
  • Reduce barriers like commuting or scheduling stress

Depression treatment doesn’t have to feel complicated to be effective.
